Add-On Value: Single Sign-on Integration

A direct product of BudURL's ongoing commitment to customer-driven development, single sign-on integration is now available as an enhancement to your BudURL installation.

If this is Greek to you, note that you're almost definitely already using single sign-on technology somewhere in your ecosystem. Have you ever been vetting a new tool and it offers you the option to use your Google or Facebook account to bypass their account setup process? That's single sign-on.  Here's a more technical definition:

Single sign-on (SSO) is a session and user authentication service that permits a user to use one set of login credentials (e.g., name and password) to access multiple applications. On the back end, SSO is helpful for logging user activities as well as monitoring user accounts.

The authentication aspect deals with validating user credentials and establishing the identity of the user. Authorization is related to access restrictions (e.g., is the user allowed to access X resource?). The attributes exchange aspect deals with data sharing across different user management systems

Why integrate SSO with BudURL?

  1. Added security- especially for clients from highly regulated organizations. SSO adds an extra layer of authentication in their internal system, ensuring only authorized employees have access to their BudURL instance.
  1. Simplify- users have the benefit of only needing to be logged into one system and  keep track of one password.
  1. Data control- all users can be managed by IT in one system. If a user forgets their password, they can be re-authenticated quickly and easily. Also, if a user leaves the company, IT can shut down access much faster.
  1. Stronger passwords (even more security): even tech-savvy users end up taking shortcuts: reusing passwords, creating weak passwords, storing passwords in email, and even writing down passwords and pasting them to their monitors. With SSO, users only need to create 1 strong password.

How do I set the integration up?

If you are using a well-known provider, we can integrate quickly and easily. If you have an internal system, we are able to collaborate and customize so your integration is seamless. We'll schedule a quick call to understand your authentication system and determine release timing.

Who benefits from SSO?

We have found that SSO is a value for any business that values extra security and simplified user management, however we see exponential value for our partners in the financial, banking and insurance industries in particular.
